New functions increase speed, accuracy and user-friendliness

The Yamaha Robotics SMT Section has introduced performance-enhancing upgrades for the YRi-V 3D AOI system. They include faster handling of assemblies, a multi-component alignment check and improved LED coplanarity measurement.

The new, stop-free transport system brakes and stabilizes each assembly electronically after it enters the machine, thus reducing the time required to position the assembly. The cumulative time saving accelerates the completion of each batch and thus noticeably increases overall productivity.

The new alignment test for multiple components simplifies the programming of the YRi-V for measuring the distances between components arranged next to each other, such as LED spotlights in automotive or general lighting. In the production of automotive headlights, users can use the recorded AOI position data to individually optimize the placement of the lenses for beam focusing for optimum light output. The alignment test can be used to determine the distances between numerous other components, such as Hall sensors for precise motion control.

The advanced height measurement system based on a blue laser ensures accurate and repeatable height measurement for components such as transparent LED housings, which can only be measured to a limited extent with conventional systems. The YRi-V system now offers even more possibilities and helps lighting manufacturers to ensure higher product reliability with superior optical performance and optimized visual appearance. The YRi-V system can also be equipped with a 25 megapixel camera, which significantly expands the image area that can be captured simultaneously.

Yamaha Robotics SMT Section has introduced its latest VP-01G-Y inline solder paste inspection system to increase quality and productivity in surface mount assembly.


The VP-01G-Y combines high-speed and high-resolution inspection functions in a single device and uses state-of-the-art algorithms in 2D and 3D mode to support focusing and contour extraction. The analysis includes 3D solder paste and adhesive inspection, foreign object detection and PCB warpage measurement to support stencil printing, dispensing and component assembly processes. The system compensates for PCB warping and enables the inspection of flexible PCBs. Device features include a ring light source that provides 360° illumination to ensure reliable inspection and accurate three-dimensional measurements.

The single-head design enables continuous, changeover-free inspection with 25 µm, 20 µm or 15 µm objective and software-controlled multi-resolution switching for further settings. At Productronica 2023, Yamaha Robotics presented the YRM20DL dual-lane pick and place machine for the first time in Europe and also unveiled new features of its powerful Smart Factory software tools.

Yamaha presented the YRM20DL together with the latest 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION machines and accepted the Global Technology Award for the advanced new machine at a ceremony on the stand on the first evening of the event. The YRM20DL is the first dual-lane pick and place machine that offers the full flexibility to pick and place high-volume and high-mix jobs on the same platform. It can be efficiently combined with Yamaha’s YRP10DL dual-track printer and the YRi-V DL dual-track 3D AOI system.

In the electronics industry, it is often used for storing moisture-sensitive components (MSD) and printed circuit boards (PCB) in a moisture-free environment. The rising process temperatures associated with the transition to lead-free soldering pose a risk to components and PCBs.
