Nordson Electronics Solutions launches the new ASYMTEK Select Coat® SL-1040 selective coating system, setting a new standard for quality and reliability in conformal coating for mass production of printed circuit boards.

Carlsbad, CA, USA – November 27, 2023 – Nordson Electronics Solutions, a leader in manufacturing technologies for the electronics industry, is pleased to announce the introduction of the new ASYMTEK Select Coat® SL-1040 selective coating system. The SL-1040 was developed with the increasing requirements of electronics manufacturers in mind. It contains improvements at system level to enhance automation, control, precision and preventive maintenance, thereby increasing availability.

Together with the new SC-450 PreciseCoat® painting valve and the extensions to the EasyCoat® software, the SL-1040 offers new features in process control.

Double and triple applicators maximize throughput, while features such as efficient changeover and traceability lead to better yields. A new ultrasonic cleaning station (patent pending) simplifies nozzle cleaning and improves uptime and operating costs. The new SL-1040 is based on the industry-leading SL-940 and offers greater platform accuracy and improved flexibility for all conformal coating operations on the substrate.

Conformal coating is a coating process that increases the life of electronic components used in harsh environments, enabling safe, reliable performance. The coating must be applied selectively in order to achieve maximum reliability. This bypasses exclusion zones and critical components such as connector pins, test points and relays. In contrast to spraying or dipping systems, which require certain parts to be masked off for protection, selective coating systems only coat the desired areas of the PCB. The use of automated equipment is a proven method of increasing yield, increasing throughput and reducing the cost of the conformal coating process. Modern PCBs are more densely populated and require greater precision with higher throughput. The SL-1040 has powerful features: it bypasses exclusion zones while providing consistent configuration, closed loop control with feedback, traceability and data logging for Industry 4.0 connectivity.

“When you can’t go back and troubleshoot, you need process control to apply the conformal coating correctly the first time. With the new Select Coat® SL-1040, we’ve kept the proven features of the SL-940 and added important system-level improvements. This allows us to take conformal coating performance to the next level and achieve better yield and higher uptime,” explains Almar Thewissen, Product Manager and Market Development Manager, Nordson Electronics Solutions.
